Minimum Equipment List
An FAA-approved document listing the equipment that may be inoperative while the aircraft is still dispatched, under stated conditions, until repairs can be made. Used mainly by commercial operations. Without an approved MEL, inoperative instruments and equipment are handled under 14 CFR § 91.213(d).
